Absences and Lateness

We believe it is important for young children to develop good habits of attendance and punctuality. Children who do not regularly come to nursery miss out on learning opportunities and can find it difficult to be a part of the school community. If there are family difficulties causing absences please let us know - this information will be confidential.

We expect your child to be here on time and attend every day. The register is closed 15 minutes after the start of the session at 9.15 a.m. in the morning and 12.30 p.m. in the afternoon.

If your child cannot come to school please ring on the day to let us know why, so that we can accurately record the reasons for absence. We keep attendance records indicating authorised absences (illness, medical appointments, domestic reasons), unauthorised absences and late arrivals.

If you are going to be unavoidably delayed in picking up your child at the end of the session or day, you must contact us and let us know what is happening. Young children do become worried and upset if the expected adult does not arrive, and staff, although understanding and willing to help, have other duties to perform at the end of the session or day.

Any child left uncollected for more than 45 minutes after the end of the school day without any explanation or contact from parents/carers may be placed in the care of Social Services.

Please complete a holiday request form if you intend to take holidays during term time. We strongly encourage parents to take holidays during school holiday periods. We cannot always keep places available if children are absent for long periods of time, but recognise the value of children visiting relatives abroad.
